Agroalimentary exports in august, the highest in 31 years
Mexico’s agroalimentary foreign trade has achieved an impressive milestone in August 2023, with the highest exports in 31 years. The agroalimentary trade balance recorded a surplus for the ninth consecutive year, driven by a 4.5% increase in exports compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 35.46 billion dollars. In the first eight months of the year, a surplus of 5.908 billion dollars was achieved, representing a 15.89% increase compared to the same period in 2022.
This success is attributed to the competitiveness and export capacity of the Mexican agroalimentary sector, supported by innovation in the agroalimentary chain and the international recognition of the country’s plant and animal health and safety. The main export groups include beverages, vegetables, and fruits, accounting for 61% of the total exports.
Some of the products that contributed the most to the agroalimentary trade surplus include beer, tequila and mezcal, avocado, tomatoes, and bakery products.
