Cargo Movement Accelerates at the Port of Manzanillo
The port of Manzanillo, known as the main port on the Mexican Pacific coast, has experienced an intense commercial activity and significant growth in the first quarter of 2024. According to data provided by the Administration of the National Port System (Asipona), the port handled a total of 8,324,581 tons of cargo in import and export between January and March. This figure represents a 7.3% increase compared to the same period last year.
Excluding natural gas and oil, the port’s commercial activity rises to 7,656,238 tons, which signifies an 8.9% growth. This growth is also reflected in the import, export, and transshipment of goods, with increases of 15.7%, 6.4%, and 9.5%, respectively.
In terms of containers, the four authorized terminals in the port of Manzanillo moved a total of 958,271 20-foot containers (TEU) in the first quarter of the year, representing a 17.7% increase compared to the same period last year. This increase translates into double-digit growth in import, export, and transshipment activities.
Furthermore, during the first three months of 2024, the port recorded the arrival of 440 vessels, with 65% of them carrying container cargo. This activity reflects a positive outlook and a continuous growth trend in foreign trade through the port of Manzanillo.
