Mexican Ports Report Marginal Growth in Container Handling in 2023
The Secretaría de Marina (Semar) has disclosed statistics revealing a marginal growth of 0.6% in container handling at Mexican ports during the year 2023, compared to the previous year. In terms of height movements (import and export), there was a 0.2% increase with a total of eight million 317 thousand 128 TEUs recorded in the January-December period of 2023.
Highlighting coastal shipping, a significant increase of 217.8% was observed compared to the previous year, reaching 44,184 TEUs. Pacific coast ports experienced a 2.0% growth, handling six million 147 thousand 496 TEUs, while on the Gulf of Mexico side, there was a 3.1% decrease, totaling two million 213 thousand 816 TEUs.
