Mexico’s Auto Exports Reach Unprecedented Levels Since 2011
The export of cars produced in Mexico has reached a level not seen since 2011, as stated by Odracir Barquera, CEO of the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA). In 2023, Mexico exported 3,300,876 automobiles, with SUVs and pick-ups leading the way, accounting for 81.5% of automotive exports. Specifically, 54.4% were SUVs and 27.1% were pick-ups.
Compared to 2022, exports increased by 15.19%. The growth is attributed to increased sales in the U.S. market, the primary destination for Mexican automotive exports. Positive expectations are set for 2024, particularly in the production of electric cars, with the addition of a third model to the existing ones manufactured by Ford and Chevrolet in the country.
