The Pacific Star: TMAZ Emerges as a Key Automotive Port Operator in Mexico
Terminal Marítima Mazatlán (TMAZ) has achieved a prominent position as the second automotive port operator on the Mexican Pacific coast, thanks to its strategic negotiations with major Chinese automotive companies. One of the most significant collaborations has been with Chery Automobile Co. Ltd., known in Mexico as Chirey, making TMAZ one of its main clients for maritime import of new vehicles.
Mauricio Ortiz Medina, the general director of TMAZ, highlights the remarkable growth experienced by the terminal in the past year. In 2023, TMAZ recorded an impressive 1,070% increase in car receptions compared to the previous year. These results position TMAZ as a key player in the Mexican automotive market, representing 26.6% of all units imported in the Pacific port terminals.
Furthermore, Ortiz Medina projects a promising future for TMAZ, anticipating that the terminal could receive between 200,000 and 220,000 new units by 2024. This exponential growth reflects TMAZ’s ability to adapt and effectively respond to the demands of the global automotive market, consolidating its presence and leadership in the sector.
