Lázaro Cárdenas and Veracruz Ports Experience Declines in Automobile Movement
The recent analysis of automobile movement in Mexican ports during the first two months of the year reveals a mixed picture. Although there is a 17.6% increase in national automobile movement compared to the same period last year, the ports of Lázaro Cárdenas and Veracruz show less encouraging figures.
In particular, the Pacific ports have experienced significant growth, with a 29.0% increase in automobile movement. However, Lázaro Cárdenas has suffered a 9.8% decline in the reception of new units and a modest 5% growth in exports.
On the other hand, in the Gulf of Mexico-Caribbean, despite the decrease in imports in Veracruz, the port of Altamira has shown a significant increase of 64.5% in automobile movement, which has boosted exports through this route.
At the national level, automobile companies have experienced increases in both sales and production, as well as exports, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
These trends highlight the importance of closely monitoring automobile movement in Mexican ports, especially in a context where the automotive industry continues to be a fundamental pillar of the national economy.
