Mexico: Ferromex and Asipona agree to expedite railway eviction in Manzanillo
The increase in the flow of import and export cargo is derived from various factors, such as the delays caused by the pandemic in Asian ports, the saturation of ports on the west coast of the United States, and the natural increase in imports due to high season, which has impacted international port operations and caused gaps in cargo supplies and ship arrivals, according to a statement.
In the document, the Administration of the National Port System (Asipona) Manzanillo indicated that it faces the challenge of efficiently and effectively meeting the growing demand and a greater flow of merchandise, in coordination with Ferromex, terminals, and users, which have implemented actions to meet the demand in the rail service.
In addition, Asipona also promised to reactivate the Subcommittee to measure operational capacity, evaluating terminal capacity based on intermodal service demand, in order to maximize rail operations; as well as the creation of a module for the railway in the Secure Smart Port System (PIS). Customs made a commitment to increase the operating windows on Sundays.
In that period, 5,310 export boxes were unloaded, a total between import and export of 13,507 boxes operated in the intermodal segment by the terminals of SSA México, Contecon Manzanillo, Hutchison Ports TIMSA, and OCUPA; Service covered by Ferromex, which assigned 3,935 rail cars in the period, in which the 13,507 import and export boxes were loaded and unloaded.
