Manzanillo would position itself as the second most important port in Latin America
Guadalajara, Jalisco. With the dispatch of 3.3 million containers per year, Manzanillo is currently the fourth most important seaport in Latin America and is betting on occupying second place – only after the Free Port of Colón in Panama – with the dispatch of more than four million containers, since it is the most important gateway for merchandise arriving from Asia.
However, the co-responsibility of the government and private companies is necessary for the port of Manzanillo to be more efficient and competitive, especially now that a “wave of containers” from China is expected, after the reopening of the port of Shanghai, which had remained inactive due to the pandemic, the president of the Mexican Council for Foreign Trade (Comce) of the West, Miguel Ángel Landeros, told El Economista.
He indicated that the port of Manzanillo has 121.5 hectares destined for container handling, while Lázaro Cárdenas in Michoacán has 210 hectares and Veracruz 61.8 hectares.
