Mexico Foresees Retaliation if US Imposes Steel Tariffs
Secretary of Economy, Raquel Buenrostro, has warned that Mexico will apply retaliatory tariffs to steel imports from the United States if the US government imposes tariffs on Mexican steel. This warning arises amid trade tensions between both countries and the possibility of the United States imposing tariffs on Mexican steel and aluminum again if measures are not taken to curb exports to the US.
Currently, there is an excess of global steel capacity, which has led the United States to impose tariffs on certain imported steel products. Mexico, on the other hand, has taken measures to mitigate the risks of unfair trade, such as the creation of tariff fractions and the harmonization of tariffs with the US.
It is expected that these trade tensions will be discussed at the Specialized Technical Committee on Foreign Trade Statistics, where the opening of relevant information will be requested.
